Brighton marathon fundraising

Lorraine completes Brighton Marathon
and raises over £300 for GCAB!

On Sunday 10th April Lorraine took part in the Brighton Marathon to help raise money for GCAB. Thank you to everyone who kindly sponsored her and a BIG thank you to Lorraine for taking on the challenge. Below Lorraine tells us what it was like to take on the 26 mile run.

After month’s of very long training runs in very cold weather, Sunday 10th April arrived, my second Brighton marathon. With temperatures predicted to reach 74 degrees centigrade not good for running 26.2 miles! It was Hot! Hot! Hot! Still the crowds of Bright cheered all of the 10,000 runners on.

I finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes, 1 minute faster than last year! Black toenails and lots of blisters but I have already entered for next year.

A big thank you to my hubby Clive and my mum for being there to support me all weekend, especially at mile 24 when I needed it most.

Also thank you to everyone for the donations. It made it all feel worth it. Back to some half marathons now until next year of course!

Where does you donation go?

A standing order of just £2 per month will help us run our social clubs throughout the County for blind and partially sighted people.

This would pay for a visually impaired person to have a specialist computer lesson

This contributes towards the costs of one of our visiting advisors to attend a home visit and carry out an initial assessment, helping with a benefit application if required.

this would cover the expenses paid to a volunteer for visiting a visually impaired person in their own home

This will enable us to supply a second hand CCTV, allowing a visually impaired person the independence to read their own post.

By donating just £2 a month you can help people live a more independent life.
